The Loikan University Solders had her quickly cuffed in old-world handcuffs and were escorting her through the main gate. Guns were pointed at her from every direction but the front, making her feel even more uneasy as she was lead down the main street, resident soldiers dog-whistling and ruthlessly mocking her as she passed. She took notice that this fort had the same air filtration system as the outcast city she had visited before this, but was struck across the back of the head as her eyes wandered. Liam tried to peer through the darkness, his eyes having adjusted as best they would in the dungeon-like basement. It was completely cut off from the base he had been paraded through upon his arrival. He couldn't even hear the activity and discussion that he knew began once he was bound, and was sure continued even now.
Though he had no clock or time-telling method to speak of, the ex-University man had a sense that he'd been tied to the chair he currently occupied for at least an hour. His wrists were raw from his immediate struggle to escape his bindings, and he could feel the various lacerations on his bod

The wind carried sound pretty well, despite the dust dampenin

When Zinfandel was up and in the cargo bay, awaiting the delivery of the new engine, Alex had already left. Red joined her shortly, dressed in baggy clothing, expecting to be crawling around on the ground all day. "Alex left already?" she asked, noticing the absence of her bike.
"Yeah, a few hours ago I think." They hadn't spent much time together without Alex, and the conversation was a bit strained, since the last time was when Zinfandel had scolded her.
"Who exactly is she rescuing, anyway?"
"Someone who left the University, though under different circumstances than you. They're old acquaintances But if the University is goin

Alex squinted through her goggles, searching through the blowing dust for the glimmer that she had seen just a moment ago. The bike was parked and sealed next to her, a tempting invitation from the dust storm she was standing in, her eyes protected with her goggles and her mouth and nose protected with something resembling and old-world gas mask. Her head whipped to the left there, again. The flashing seemed patterned, but not in her direction. There were long breaks, in which she assumed a different part of the message was being transmitted.
With the direction etched in her mind, she opened the bike and draped her leg over it, cl
